Sociology Autobiography

Would being in love be even more scary if everyone used sociological perspective for marriage? Having the possibility of love be more so shaped by society than actual personal feeling or memories, would seem to be one scary reality to many people in modern day society. Technology, in my opinion, has truly downgraded majority of societies views of true love. When you can find someone that fits all categories of what makes a perfect spouse at the tips of your fingers, it makes leaving a relationship for a small argument so much easier. Besides shaping our views of love in a negative way, personal connection has become far more disconnected due to everyone’s “obsession” with staring at their phones. Many other variables help share the blame for the lack of human interaction and connection. For instance, everyone has their own problems, making them more likely to judge your problems less severely, making them want to prioritize themselves over you. However, racism and stereotypes have played a major role in shaping the global perspective of many of our countries citizens. Even seeming so, our population is less than a middle-income or low-income country. Using global perspective more often, hopefully we can make a move forward toward diminishing the act of racism. Looking at the world rather than split nations or people of practices and color, we can unite and look at things in a more thorough clear minded perspective.

Seeing as North Americans only make up about 5% of the worlds people, majority of all different races and beliefs, it makes a lot of sense to why society has structured itself to have everyone on edge about those that are different. This to me, is a huge problem with our society. Since society has pushed for people to be weary of those that are different than one’s self, this concept is a major negative part of modern society. However, if you have come to the terms and reality of the sociological perspective thinking on races and diversity, society has made it a lot easier to accept and learn about multiple cultures, races and traditions of many countries!

Something that I myself can do to help myself or society is to do good things without expecting anything in return. For example, helping a child who’s $.90 short of being able to buy a candy bar is such a small selfless act to do, but can make such a big difference in his/her day. This small act of random kindness can help shape their sociological perspective of many different types of people. In the same sense, one thing I could do that could potentially affect society or myself negatively would be allowing stereotypes of racism stop me from doing random acts of kindness. I believe one way we could solve the major problem of racism is to either start caring more or not caring at all. Depending on how you look at it. If people start caring more, they will want to do the research to better understand people and in return gain the power of having knowledge. Finally, when people stop caring, it may also be a good thing because then they may be concerned about other aspects of their lives, giving them no reason to care and want to be all in everyone’s business and giving them reason to look at things as silly as hating someone just because of their skin color.

I decided to use this video because it shows the perspective of racism through the eyes of a child. I see this as relevant because if more people could view other people the same way as this child or like a child, then maybe there would be a chance for racism to be even more minimized.

1) How can you use sociological perspective to break away from social structures?

2) Using sociological perspective, have sports shaped society in a positive or negative way?

3) How does someone using sociological perspective view things differently than someone who does not?
