Entry #8

Week 5, entry 8

9/25/18

Today we talked about culture and compared the top 10 cultures in the world, at least I believe it was 10. It was extremely interesting to look at cultures of those less fortunate than ours. Seeing how those in Africa show a woman they’re interested, and how the woman are then pranked and forced to walk with dun on their head was extremely weird but very interesting. It was also amazing to hear how “Eskimos” in Canada/Alaska still believe in building igloos for shelter on their fishing expeditions, rather than buying something more convenient. I really would love to be able to travel all over the world and being able to learn something about as many cultures as I could. Mixing up my socialization before I’m unable to travel the world would be amazing.

One way I can help with culture in America, is by trying to figure out which cultures make up my heritage and find a way that I can incorporate them to my modern life, and possibly have it affect my children and so on. One way I can potentially harm myself with culture is by denying the different cultures that make up my family’s history, and start looking down on then.

One way society can potentially hurt me with culture is by keeping social conflict in the middle of media and allowing it to change mine and other possibilities. One way society can potentially help me would by embracing the fact that most of American culture is a ton of different religions and cultures all thrown into one pot.

I chose this video and picture as a way to easily show the way that society and culture can be described and show how I really wish the way the world worked was that everyone could live together without any worry of different race, culture, skin color etc.

Hypothetically we can change this problem by dictating what amount of social conflict we allow to be shared in the news. With also making sure we do not allow the government to enforce so much acts of social conflict.

1) Why is American considered such a powerful culture, when it’s a mixture of a bunch of subcultures from different countries?

2) Why do African woman have to walk around with poop on their head if a male shows interest?

3) Does the lack of socialization with majority of the world, effect the eskimos negatively.
